Poster Series:
Event Celebrating 3
Influential Writers

The development of an effective visual design system (hierarchy) seeking to unify differing components while instilling excitement through innovative representation of meaning. This project focuses on the manipulation and composition of typography and image as it aims to conveys a cohesive message through a poster series.
Three posters persuade viewers to attend a series of events celebrating Nobel Prize winning authors Rabindranath Tagore, Gabriel García Márquez, and Toni Morrison whose words transformed Indian, South American, and American culture.

  • Rabindranath Tagore

    POET: 1861 - 1941

“Looking back, the only thing of which I feel certain is that I am a poet (ami kavi).”

  • Gabriel García Márquez

    JOURNALIST, NOVELIST: 1927 - 2014

“What matters in life is not what happens to you but what you remember and how you remember it.”

  • Toni Morrison

    NOVELIST: 1931 - 2019

“At some point in life the world's beauty becomes enough. You don't need to photograph, paint, or even remember it. It is enough.”

Vision and Palette Development

Concept Ideation

I wanted to explore both vertical and horizontal options as well as vastly different styles.

Typographic Layout / Grid System

Imagery Development

Inspired by the BLM movement logo, I wanted to capture that same feeling of strength in my posters. Each poster is dedicated to a different author and they are holding their writing utensil high as they use their talents to tell important stories.

Final Posters

The final outcome has a cohesive feel and each element bolsters the composition. The hierarchy and information design is thoughtful and easily understood from poster to poster. This is aided by the grid which is clear and organizes the information in an aesthetically appealing manner. Overall, the color palette across the series conveys the creativity and intellectual importance that these three writers had on their communities and communicates a sense of energy to anyone who may pass by.
